Meet the partners

Meet the Partners, Jay Lad & Peter Turner.

Jay lad

Having graduated from City University London with a Bsc Hons in Optometry Jay started working for 4-Sight Opticians practice in 1989. Having trained and worked with 4-Sight for a number of years he opened a SpecSavers franchise in Birmingham City Centre in 1991. Although the franchise is still running today, Jay sold his interest and moved on to undertake a period of travel and Locum work before setting up Lad & Turner Opticians with his now partner; Peter Turner.

As well as plenty of in-practice experience, Jay continues to add to his academic qualifications. He successfully completed further examinations to become a Glaucoma Screening Specialist, a Cataract Specialist as well as a Minor Eye Conditions Specialist. This latter qualification forms part of a new initiative by the Local Health Authority, promoting GP surgery and Pharmacy referrals for minor eye conditions to a local eye specialist.

Jay is a Member of the College of Optometrists, The Association of Optometrists and the General Optical Council. He is happily married to Roshni with 2 children and enjoys Charity Walks and Cycling, with Vision Aid Overseas & The National Deaf Children’s Society being a particular favourite.

Peter Turner

Having left Grammer school in Sutton Coldfield at the age of 18, Peter joined a small but growing chain of Optician practices based in Birmingham. Starting on the shop floor as a trainee sales assistant he immediately took to the role of guiding clients to the most appropriate optical solution based on both need and budget. A naturally easy and friendly communicator with a real interest in delivering excellent customer service, Peter was spotted by the Groups Management team and soon rose through the ranks to become the youngest ever Practice Manager within the group. A position he held until starting to work for himself in 1993.

His partnership with Jay at Lad & Turner is a perfect example of a balanced business. While Jay takes care of the eye examinations and referrals, Peter provides dispensing advice on everything, from the very latest lens technology, through frame design trends and the most appropriate contact lens advice for a client’s needs and budget. All delivered with a polite, unassuming professionalism.

Peter lives in South Derbyshire, with his wife and two sons. They have a daughter too, and together they are great supporters of the charity ASSERT.
